Despite the importance of soil reaction for alien plant establishment, few and incomplete studies have included this key factor so far. In this study, we investigated the effects of soil pH on the germination, growth plant height, width, dry weight, etc. In addition, we determined if soil pH has an effect on the total pollen allergenicity of the species. After preliminary germination tests on agar at different pH from pH4 to pH8 , plants were grown in natural soils with pH values of 5 acid , 6 sub-acid and 7 neutral obtained by modifying a natural soil by liming methods calcium hydroxide solution. Results showed that plants grown at pH7 were shorter and developed leaves at a slower rate than those grown at pH5 and pH6; plants grown at pH7 did not produce flowers and pollen.
The impacts of climate change on forest community composition are still not well known. Although directional trends in climate change and community composition change were reported in recent years, further quantitative analyses are urgently needed. Previous studies focused on measuring population growth rates in a single time period, neglecting the development of the populations. Here we aimed to compose a method for calculating the community composition change, and to testify the impacts of climate change on community composition change within a relatively short period several decades based on long-term monitoring data from two plots—Dinghushan Biosphere Reserve, China DBR and Barro Colorado Island, Panama BCI —that are located in tropical and subtropical regions. The results indicated that the population growth rate of a majority of populations has decreased over the past few decades. This decrease was mainly caused by population development. The increasing temperature had a positive effect on population growth rates and community change rates.
Plant species from unproductive or adverse habitats are often characterized by a low potential relative growth rate RGR. Although it is generally assumed that this is the result of selection for specific trait combinations that are associated with a low rate of net biomass accumulation, few studies have directly investigated the selective dis- advantage of specific growth parameters under a set of different environmental conditions. Aim of the present study was to quantify the impact of inherent differences in growth parameters among phenotypes of a single plant species, Lychnis flos-cuculi , on their performance under different soil nutrient conditions. Growth analysis revealed significant variation in RGR among progeny families from a diallel cross between eight genotypes originating from a single population. A genetic trade-off was observed between these two components of growth, i. The degree of plasticity in RGR to nutrient conditions did not differ among progeny families.

Plant growth and geographic distribution are greatly affected by the environment. For example, only plants adapted to limited amounts of water can live in deserts. Either directly or indirectly, most plant problems are caused by environmental stress. In some cases, poor environmental conditions e. In other cases, environmental stress weakens a plant and makes it more susceptible to disease or insect attack. Environmental factors that affect plant growth include light, temperature, water, humidity, and nutrition.
Phytomorphology is the study of the physical form and external structure of plants. Recent studies in molecular biology started to investigate the molecular processes involved in determining the conservation and diversification of plant morphologies. In these studies transcriptome conservation patterns were found to mark crucial ontogenetic transitions during the plant life cycle which may result in evolutionary constraints limiting diversification. Plant morphology "represents a study of the development, form, and structure of plants, and, by implication, an attempt to interpret these on the basis of similarity of plan and origin". First of all, morphology is comparative , meaning that the morphologist examines structures in many different plants of the same or different species, then draws comparisons and formulates ideas about similarities. When structures in different species are believed to exist and develop as a result of common, inherited genetic pathways, those structures are termed homologous.

The atmospheric carbon dioxide concentration has risen from about parts per million ppm before to about ppm today. Climate changes, including a mean global surface temperature rise of between 2. The objectives of this paper are to examine plant responses to rising carbon dioxide levels and climatic changes and to interpret the consequences of these changes on crop water use and water resources for the United States. The main purpose of irrigation is to supply plants with adequate water for transpiration and for incorporating the element hydrogen in plant tissues through photosynthesis and subsequent biosynthesis of various tissues and organs.
